Sports Medicine
Moving sports medicine forward through new repair methods, improved rehabilitation strategies, and cutting-edge biomechanical research.
Aim & Scope
This group of board-certified orthopaedic sports medicine surgeons specializes in both adult and pediatric care and supports innovative research to advance treatment and recovery. At FORE and FOI, we are constantly studying new technologies and innovative surgical approaches to improve sports medicine outcomes — from new repair methods to improved rehabilitation strategies, we are committed to moving orthopaedic surgery forward.
Through the partnership between Florida Orthopaedic Institute and Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education, research and patient care work hand-in-hand. By supporting clinical studies, innovation, and education, this collaboration helps bring discoveries into real-world treatment — improving outcomes for patients today and in the future.
FORE supports advanced biomechanics research to evaluate joint movement, tendon strength, and repair techniques — bridging laboratory discovery with real-world surgical outcomes.
Research In Action
Advancing treatment and recovery across key areas of sports medicine.
ACL Research
Improving ACL repair and recovery outcomes through innovative surgical techniques and prospective clinical study.
Cartilage Repair
Evaluating new technologies and biologics to maintain joint health and restore function after cartilage injury.
Tendon Repair
Studying techniques to strengthen tendon repairs and accelerate recovery for athletes and active patients.
We collect real-world outcomes data through registries like OBERD to better understand how patients recover after knee and shoulder injuries. This helps our team evaluate treatment effectiveness and improve long-term results.

Active Enrolling Trials
BioBrace Implant for Arthroscopic Repair of Full Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears
A prospective, single-blind, multicenter, randomized controlled pivotal study evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the BioBrace Implant during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
Post Market Confirmatory Study: Integrity Implant System for Rotator Cuff Tear Augmentation
Interventional post-market confirmatory study assessing the Integrity Implant System's clinical performance in rotator cuff tear augmentation procedures.
MACI Multicenter Clinical Outcomes Registry
Multicenter registry tracking real-world clinical outcomes for Matrix-Induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI), a cartilage restoration procedure for the knee.
Active Follow-up Studies
Age as a Risk Factor for Poor Outcomes of Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration (BEAR®)
A prospective cohort clinical trial evaluating how patient age influences clinical outcomes following Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration, a biologic alternative to traditional ACL reconstruction.
High-Intensity Home Stretching vs. Physical Therapy for Adhesive Capsulitis
Prospective, randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of a high-intensity home stretching device compared to traditional physical therapy in the non-operative management of frozen shoulder.
