2023 Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award
Christopher J. Dy, MD, MPH, FACS, FAOA, FAAOS, received the 2023 Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award for his research on how brachial plexus injuries (BPI) affect patients’ quality of life. Dr. Dy’s research found that existing studies and outcomes did not account for the emotional, psychological, and pain-related aspects as patients recovered from BPI surgery and identified a disconnect between surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

2023 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughn Award
Michelle Ghert, MD, FRCSC, received the 2023 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughn Award on behalf of the Prophylactic Antibiotic Regimens in Tumor Surgery (PARITY) investigators for their research on the prevention of surgical site infections (SSIs) through antibiotic prophylaxis following oncologic reconstruction surgery for bone tumors. Their work resulted in the first-ever international, multi-center randomized controlled trial (RCT) in orthopaedic oncology as well as the largest collaborative effort in orthopaedic surgery with regards to the number of countries collaborating.

2023 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Clinical Research Award
Marc J. Philippon, MD, FAAOS, was honored with the 2023 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Clinical Research Award, which recognizes outstanding clinical research related to musculoskeletal disease or injury. For more than 25 years, Dr. Philippon and his team of investigators at the Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado, have validated and advanced hip arthroscopy and developed techniques, such as labral repair and reconstruction, and orthobiologic approaches to attain the best possible outcomes.

2023 Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award
The Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC) received the 2023 Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award for its multi-disciplinary research platform addressing the challenging issues related to the evaluation, treatment and recovery after severe extremity trauma. This award recognizes research in musculoskeletal disease or injury with great potential to advance patient care. As the largest orthopaedic trauma research enterprise to date, METRC has conducted 34 studies, enrolled over 22,000 patients across 70 sites and published 57 papers, resulting in increased awareness and funding for extremity trauma care.
