FORE is looking for a Biomechanics Laboratory Manager (BLM) to provide overall support to the Director of Laboratory Operations. The BLM is responsible for managing the workflow of assigned laboratory projects including experimental design, testing set-up, data acquisition, data analysis, generation of progress reports, writing of manuscripts and preparation/presenting of work at regional and national conferences. Additionally, they will be responsible for writing grants/proposals to generate funding for lab projects. The BLM must consistently meet deadlines by setting goals and milestones for each assigned project. Additionally, the BLM must develop and maintain a budget for each assigned project. The BLM must be able to effectively communicate project status to the Director and physician collaborators. The BLM must understand and utilize standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of biomechanics.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Work with Director and collaborators to design experiments to answer research questions
- Responsible for writing journal manuscripts, grant proposals, creating PowerPoint presentations for conferences (podium and/or poster), as well as assist with chapter preparations for books
- Conduct appropriate literature reviews
- Develop and work within project budget
- Design and build fixtures for biomechanics projects
- Operate and troubleshoot:
- Machine shop equipment:
- CNC Machine
- Drill Press, chop saw, band saw, etc…
- Material testing machine (TestResources, MTS, Instron, or similar) including:
- Load cells, LVDT’s, DVRT’s, electromagnetic goniometers, etc…
- Linear and torsional actuators
- Strain gage conditioners and general strain gaging
- Rapid prototyper
- General electronics
- Machine shop equipment:
- Record, interpret/analyze and display gathered data
- Draft progress reports
- Delegate appropriate tasks to research supervisors and interns
- Responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies including:
- General lab supplies (gloves, gowns, soap, prototyper supplies, etc…)
- Project specific supplies (material and hardware for fixtures, bondo, etc…)
Job Requirements
- A PhD in Bioengineering, Mechanical engineering or Biomedical engineering from an accredited four year university. (Applicants who currently are in the semester in which they are defending their dissertation will be considered.)
- A track record of publishing in peer reviewed journals a must
- Work experience in a biomechanics laboratory is preferred
- Experience designing and building fixtures for biomechanics projects
- Have working knowledge of the following software:
- Solidworks (3D CAD program) or similar
- Mimics (CT processing program)
- ABAQUS (Finite element analysis program) or similar
- Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Have strong interpersonal skills
- Be able to learn quickly and apply acquired knowledge to new projects

Description
- Reports to Director of Continuing Medical Education
- Assists in phone registrations for courses
- Processes course registrations, which are received by fax, mail, phone and online
- Assists in creating and proofing professional course mailers and educational materials
- Assists in creating professional documents to distribute at each course including welcome letter, evaluation tool, handouts etc.
- Organizes general supply orders for courses and for the Foundation
- Assists with updating course website
- Assists with mass emails to potential course registrants
- Additional tasks as assigned
